Release Notes for v2.0.16 (2018.08.24)

Overview

After almost exactly three years of part time development and exclusively private use, I added a UI for configuring cameras (instead of relying on a hard coded configuration), fixed up the website and checked various boxes for App Store release.

This first release also marks a transition from using Live555 to FFmpeg for RTSP streaming.

So, why release the app? I’m hoping that whatever sales I get will function as my budget for buying new and interesting cameras, that will help me improve the variety of cameras that Streamie supports.

Background

For some historical context, the initial code import into git occurred on August 11, 2015 — almost exactly three years earlier. The initial code import included a mechanism for displaying images via Metal, one hardcoded RTSP URL, and a bunch of Objective-C++ for working with Live555. My recollection is that I committed the code after I got a basic proof-of-concept working. Without more precise details (or a more precise memory), I think of August, 2015 as Streamie’s “birthday” — or what was called CameraMan at the time.
